Essential Equipment Tips

Undertaking the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is very popular with people of all ages, and all walks of life. However it should not be underestimated, nor undertaken without suitable preparation and equipment.
A comprehensive equipment tips list is shown below. Not all may be required, but please don’t underestimate this challenge, and changeable weather on the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Our local mountain rescue team is too busy already. Before coming to Horton-in-Ribblesdale, please check our local Ribblehead Weather Station.

The recommended route is; Pen-y-ghent - Whernside - Ingleborough, as the last descent is fairly gradual.

As long as the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is attempted at a suitable time of year, the number of daylight hours should not a problem. It is crucial to take a first aid kit, as something as simple as a blister could ruin your (sponsored) challenge. Bring everything with you, as there are no local outdoor equipment shops.
Build up your stamina, eat properly, and don’t drink too much alcohol the night before. Bring a good mixture of carbohydrates (bread), Protein (meat/dairy), and fats (nuts) - about double your normal daily intake.
A small hydration backpack, containing around 4 to 5 litres of water is also recommended
